About me
Long story short:
I am a software developer currently living in Bucharest, Romania. I am one of the Bucharest Java User Group's co-organizers, making sure that the local Java developers have the opportunity to meet each other, attend a talk or two and share a table at least once a week.
I am the host of the monthly Bring Your Own Code meeting that is part of the larger Bucharest Agile Sofware Meetup Group, otherwise known as the AgileWorks community of Bucharest.
Also, I have recently joined the team of global coordinators of the Global Day of Coderetreat.
Long story long: Right after graduating CS at the Technical University Gheorghe Asachi in Iasi, I jumped into "professional" programming by working remotely on a Java desktop application written in Swing and JPA 1. It was all the rage back then! The affair only lasted for a year.
Then, I moved to Bucharest and got hired at Code Factory Ltd. I've been with them ever since. At CFL, I've worked on a variety of Java based products for the most part. Lately, I've been doing a lot of cross platform mobile development with Cordova / PhoneGap / Ionic, all the reason to pay more and more attention to JavaScript and Node.js. Hence the tagline "(Not only) Java software developer".
In my spare time, I appreciate a good movie or TV show, especially if it's science-fiction. I fully support the New Wave of Romanian cinema, as well as our own international animation film festival Anim'est. I indulge in reading the news as they are explained by Vox.com, the articles of io9.com, or any other item waiting in my Feedly queue. Coffee is my only vice.
On the road, I listen to Nick Francis' Quiet Music podcast, as well as various radio shows of José Padilla -- the DJ, not the prisoner! I used to listen to a lot of trance music back when I was in college, but not anymore (2007 and 2008 were the peak years for me).
This blog is a sort of a "captain's log", documenting my (mis)steps along my journey in software development. You can expect posts on topics such as Java, Android, Cordova, Ionic, JavaScript, Node.js, and the list could go on but I'm going to stop because, my God, are you still here? I appreciate it.
